Factors that will affect admission in 2012/2013 session

Many factors will affect admission into universities in 2012/2013 session. Some of these factors will be discuss below. Please note that the list is not exhaustive. We will be adding others to this article with time.

JAMB Exam Date
The 2012 JAMB UTME has been schedule for March 24th 2012. Now the implication of this is that there will not be enough time to prepare for the exam. Because of this, less people are likely going to cross the 200 cut-off mark making them ineligible to write post UTME in their choice universities. This development will likely force more universities to set simpler exam questions for post UTME. However, this year admission will be survival of the fittest because majority of those that will pass will be on merit. So, if you are going to make it in 2012 admission, you have to look beyond JAMB UTME. Remember, I always say early preparation is the key to admission success. Be warned!

Interval between Jamb and Post UTME Exam Date
In recent years, most universities write their post Jamb around August and September. Now Jamb has fixed their exam in March. That means some universities will push their PUME screening backword. Don’t forget too that Jamb usually releases their result one week after the exam. That means by March ending, the result must have been out. This implies that most universities will conduct their post JAMB by June or July. This means there will be little time to prepare for PUTME. I foresee a situation where many successful candidates will be caught unaware. My recommendation is that as you prepare for JAMB, also try and prepare for post UTME. Who say you cannot kill two birds with one stone? More information will be made available on post UTME preparation on our website for those on the VAIC project.

Preparation Level
The early months of 2012 has come with a lot of distractions. Celebrations like New Year, Valentine, Esther and other holidays will likely take some applicants away from their concentration. For an applicant to be successful in this regard, early preparation is important. Applicants need to be diligent and focus. We encourage all applicants to attend extra-moral, classes. This will not only encourage preparation but also concentration. Since there will be little interval between Jamb exam and post JAMB, it will be appropriate for applicants to be diligent in their study. Look beyond the Jamb exam and use the same opportunity to prepare for post exam. Remember, he who fails to prepare should prepare to fail.

Strikes and Subsidy Protest
The ASUU strike has grounded activities in many Universities. Many schools are likely going to be rounding up their second semester. Many JAMB applicants cannot obtain information from their prospective universities because they and on strike. Unfortunately, the JAMB brochure and these universities websites are not up-to-date. The NLC strike coupled with the protest that follows has made it difficult for many JAMB candidates to attend extra-mural classes at the right time. The protest too has resulted in distractions.

Other factors that will shake 2012 admission will be added to this article from time to time. So, we encourage you to check back again and again. However, if you want SMS notification on timely admission information, subscribe to the VAIC project.
